There are schools that are in desperate need of supplies. Through the collaboration of generous partners, AJF has been able to step in and help.
What started as an effort to assist impoverished communities with donations consisting of reusable and disposable face masks (mostly sourced from the KAAF Trust) and Antibax hand sanitizer/surface disinfectant (jointly owned by Anwar Jakoet and Martin Le Roux), transcended into a unified collective of close friends, family and business colleagues to assist various struggling communities within the Western Cape.
Encouraged by a few long-standing close friends from the Harold Cressy High School Class of 1979, the assistance to the community grew from donating goods to about five organisations to approximately one hundred and seventy-five organizations within Langebaan/ Ocean View/ Hout Bay/Swellendam/Manenberg/MitchellsPlain/HanoverPark/Langa/Khayelitsha/Wellington/Franschoek/Klapmuts/Nyanga and many more townships.
The AJF aims to assist any organisation which feeds hungry children, the elderly and the destitute - irrespective of religion, colour or creed. People who are operating the soup kitchens/feeding schemes, orphanages, old age homes, night shelters and cooking for their communities are the real heroes. The AJF is merely the conduit for their selfless sacrifices, and together with them, the AJF is able to tackle outreach programmes in rural and coastal towns where poverty and unemployment is rife.
The AJF has, to date, supplied gas stoves, fabric and disposable face masks, Antibax hand sanitizer and dry food ingredients, without any funding from government or large organisations. The strength of AJF is in its network of support, both locally and internationally.
We have formed partnerships with various organisations in the food supply chain, food kitchens, schools in disadvantaged areas and, recently, with a professional soccer club.
We have also formed a formidable partnership with the Azhar Timol Foundation, well known in the Western Cape, for distributing food parcels and bulk food provisions to hundreds of recipients in the NPO and Feeding Scheme sector.
More recently, we have assisted with the roll-out Planter boxes for the smaller soup kitchens, where space is limited, in order for them to start their own herb gardens. The next step is to provide assistance to set-up Veggie Gardens in schools and open community spaces. AJF will start its own Veggie Garden at SANTOS sports field in Thornton within the coming weeks. We have enlisted the assistance of Prof. Jeremy Klaasen and Mr A. Brinkhuis (runs a commercial egg and vegetable farm in the Western Cape) as our advisors.
In order to maximize our efforts, AJF aims to continue to collaborate with professionals, in their respective fields, whether it be Accounting Systems, Transport and Logistics, Project Management and/or Sustainable Food Provision.
We have also gained the support of Sports Icons, Radio and Television Personalities, Entrepreneurs, Teaching professionals as Ambassadors for AJF.
